Electrodischarge machining is stabilized by limiting disturbances in an interelectrode control system due to the eccentricity of rotating electrodes, variations in electric characteristics of feeder brushes, the mechanical resonance of an electrode drive system and so on. To increase process speed, detected quantities associated with the machining status are filtered, and the filtered control quantities serve to control the distance between the electrode and the workpiece.
