This invention provides compounds of Formula (I) having the structure (I) wherein R is (a) or (b); A is OR<5>, or (c); R<1> is alkyl of 1-6 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl of 3-8 carbon atoms, thienyl, furyl, pyridyl, (d) or (e) R<2> is hydrogen, alkyl of 1-6 carbons atoms, or aryl of 6 to 10 carbon atoms; R<3> and R<4> are independently halogen, hydrogen, alkyl of 1-12 carbon atoms, aryl of 6 to 10 carbon atoms; halogen, trifluoromethyl of 1-6 carbon atoms, alkoxyaryl of 7-14 carbon atoms; nitro, amino, carboalkoxy, carbamide, carbamate, urea, alkylsulfoamide, -NR<7>(CH2)mO2H, arylsulfoamide, cycloalkyl of 3-8 carbon atoms, or heterocycle of 5 to 7 atom rings containing from 1 to 3 heteroatoms selected from oxygen, nitrogen, or sulfur; R<5> is hydrogen, alkyl of 1-6 carbon atoms, -CH(R<8>)R<9>, -C(CH2)nCO2R<10>, -C(CH3)2CO2R<10>, -CH(R<8>)(CH2)nCO2R<10>, -CH(R<8>)C6H4CO2R<10>, or -CH2-tetrazole; R<6> is hydrogen, alkyl of 1-6 carbon atoms, halogen, alkyoxy of 1-6 carbon atoms, trifluoroalkyl of 1-6 carbon atoms or trifluoroalkoxy of 1-6 carbon atoms; or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, which are useful in treating metabolic disorders related to insulin resistance or hyperglycemia.
