<p>PURPOSE:To provide a transmitter capable of modelately deteriorating a receiving state like in analog transmission. CONSTITUTION:A highly efficient hierarchical encoder 1 highly efficiently compresses the information of an input signal A such as a video/sound signal to a hierarchical structure. The signal compressed in accordance with the hierarchy is converted into a multi-valued modulation signal group in each hierarchy by quaternary and 2m value modulation vector generators 5, 6. Plural multi- valued modulation signal groups are inversely Fourier-transformed by a high speed inverse Fourier-transformer 7 to convert a frquency area into a time area. The multi-valued modulation signal groups corresponding to the number of hierarchies are converted into a real time signal and a virtual time signal by a complex frequency converter 8, both the signals are synthesized at their vectors by an adder 9 and a modulation signal is outputted from an antenna 10. The multi-valued numbers of carrier groups are changed in accordance with the number of hierarchies for hierarchical encoding and the carrier groups are arranged in channels so as to be vertically symmetrical from the center of frequency, and at the time of demodulation, a hiearchy having an effective state is selected in accordance with the error rate of each carrier group.</p> |
