PURPOSE:To obstruct the backward movement of the rolled material so as to easily feed the rolled material into the rolling rolls, by vertically moving the upper roll against the lower roll arranged along the pass line, and by installing the clamping device on the inlet side of upper and lower rolls. CONSTITUTION:The upper roll 5 is placed at the position higher than the lower roll 4, and the upper clamping part 72 is left as it is pulled up. When the tip of the rolled material W strikes the work roll 2, the upper clamping part 72 is brought down so as to clamp the rolled material W cooperating with the lower clamping part 71; hereby, the backward movement of the rolled material W is obstructed. Hereupon, a small loop is formed in the rolled material W. The hydraulic cylinder 7 is actuated so as to pull down the upper roll 5 and strongly pressure the loop of the rolled material W. Hereby, the longitudinal force generated in the rolled material W acts as the force directing the tip of the rolled material W, so that the rolled matrial W is pushed into the work roll 2 by a strong force. When the work roll 2 begins rotation, the upper clamping part 72 is pulled up. |
