The operating and braking device (10) with twin handed control system, has two independent manually operated release elements (19,21) via which during operation, a drive braking can be released and the current feed for at least one motor can be switched on, thereby acting upon a braking element in the release direction. Each release element works upon a braking element (26,27) assigned only to it and upon a switch (24,25). The two braking elements can be moved independently of each other, in a translatory and a rotating direction. There are two motors coupled kinematically with a tool (18) upon each of which a braking device works.
