A transparent non crystalline organic high polymer plastics window pane useful for aircraft windows

A transparent non crystalline organic high polymer plastics window pane with silicon particles dispersed in it of particle size no greater than the wavelength of visible light obtained by one of two processes is new. In the first process the Si particles are dispersed in a first solvent and a second solvent in which the polymer is soluble. On mixing the two solvents and heating a resin mixture is formed. In the second process, the Si particles are mixed into the high polymer with heating as it is undergoing formation to give a resin mixture. Independent claims are included for: (1) a plastics window pane formed and containing Si particles as above, with a hard protective layer formed on the pane surface having a graded concentration of Si particles. The concentration of the Si particles in a direction from the center of the protective layer to the pane is gradually decreased, and the concentration of Si particles in the layer next to the surface is in the region of 50-92 wt. %; and (2) a process for production of the window pane by one of the two above processes.
