Treatment process for tailings and/or domestic refuse includes the following steps: (a) preliminary size reduction to create a uniform stream of material; (b) magnetic separation of ferrous metals; (c) further size reduction of the materials; (d) removal by suction of a light fraction from the further size-reduced material; (e) sieving of the material and separation into coarse and fine fractions; and (f) delivery of the coarse and fine fractions to separate containers. Also claimed is a plant in which the process is carried out.
