An opening window is fitted with metal control gear along the outer sides of the window frame. The conventional two piece fitting is replaced by a single control element (314) which is guided by tags (318) which are part of the metal side trim (316) of the window frame. No separate support strip is required. The tags are bent out of the side frame and have a corrosion resistant coating
