DEVICE AND METHOD FOR FACILITATING HEMOSTASIS OF A BIOPSY TRACT

A system including an adaptor (12), and a syringe (14) is used for facilitating hemostasis of a biopsy tract or other puncture wound by injection of an absorbable sponge (18) in a hydrated state into the wound. The adaptor (12) includes a tapered lumen for hydrating, and compressing the relatively large absorbable sponge (18) for delivery through a relatively small cannula, such as a biopsy needle (16). The hydrated absorbable sponge (18) is injected through the biopsy needle (16) into the biopsy tract by fluid.
