A web of paper is discharged from a spool via a roller and a pressure plate to a gluing station (1) at which it is spliced with a second web of paper. The glue station has a first knife (11) to cut the first web after gluing. The gluing station has a second knife (19) which swivels coaxial with the web feed roller (6) between the feed roller and the tension roller (12), cutting the paper (4) in a transverse plane.
