A solenoid actuated valve (30, 130) includes a valve body (31, 131) that defines a first passage (13, 113) and a second passage (16, 116). The solenoid (12, 112) is attached to the valve body (31, 131) and has an armature (28, 128). A multi-piece valve member (32, 132) is attached to the armature (28, 128). At least one of the multi-piece valve member (32, 132) and valve body (31, 131) define a small passage (37, 137) and a large passage. The multi-piece valve member (32, 132) has a first configuration in which both the small and large passages are closed. The multi-piece valve member (32, 132) has a second configuration in which the small passage (37, 137) is open between the first passage (13, 113) and the second passage (16, 116), but the large passage remains closed. The multi-piece valve member (32, 132) has a third configuration in which the large passage is open between the first passage (13, 113) and the second passage (16, 116). The valve finds a preferred application as a control valve (30, 130) in a hydraulically-actuated fuel injector (10). |
