PURPOSE:To obtain a character input device of a small and inexpensive structure that is suited to an input of Chinese characters or the like with a simple operation, by providing a specific character board, character indicator, optical reading means and electric signal processing means, respectively. CONSTITUTION:For a character board 2, the characters such as Chinese characters or the like are distributed on the surface of a plate made of paper or the like to be printed, and the characters same as those on the surface as shown in the diagram plus the codes such as bar codes corresponding to these characters are printed on the back surface. Then, for instance, a character indicator 3 is shifted to select an optional character on the board 2, and the characters and their corresponding codes on the back surface of the board 2 are read by an optical reading means 4 interlocking the indicator 3 to be converted into electric signals. These signals are processed electrically by a data processor consisting of a read control part 5, a microcomputer 6, an input switch 7 and others and then stored in an RAM to be delivered when necessary to a terminal device of a CRT display, a dot printer or the like. |
