FIELD: petrochemistry. SUBSTANCE: hydrocarbon stock is made to contact, under hydrocracking conditions, with catalyst comprising zeolite, hydrogenation and matrix material of inorganic oxide. Catalyst has pore volume from about 400 A to about 100 A when at least about 5% pore volume is accounted for pores having diameter greater than about 200 A. Method makes it possible to obtain main component of lubricating oil having high viscosity index, low nitrogen content and low sulfur content.
