PRODUCTION OF WATER-ABSORBING AGENT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a water-absorbing agent having well-balanced absorption ratio under non-pressure condition and that under high-pressure condition and showing excellent water-absorbing characteristics even if the wt. % (resin concentration) of a water-absorbing resin is made higher when to be used e.g. for hygienic materials by using a crosslinking agent having high molecular weight. SOLUTION: This method for producing a water-absorbing agent includes mixing a water-absorbing resin having carboxyl groups with a crosslinking agent and subjecting the mixture to thermal treatment; wherein, the crosslinking agent having repeated structural unit expressed by the formula [CH2 CH2 O)m - CH2 -CH(OH)-CH2 -O] [(m) is an integer of 1-10], having groups reactive with carboxyl group and having an average molecular weight of >=500 is used.
