PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a high purity glyceryl ether, capable of producing the glyceryl ether in a high yield and in the high conversion of a raw material alcohol compound. SOLUTION: This method for producing a glyceryl ether comprises reacting an alcohol compound with an α-epihalohydrin in the presence of an acid catalyst containing an aluminum compound of the general formula: Al(R<1> -SO3 )1 (R<2> )m (R<3> )n [R<1> exhibits a hydrocarbon group which may have a substituent; R<2> is a hydrocarbon group which may have a substituent, a hydrocarbonoxy group which may have a substituent, or a halogen atom; R<3> is an aromatic hydrocarbonoxy group which may have a substituent; (l), (m) and (n) are each a number of 0-3 so as to give a relation of the equation: (l)+(m)+(n)=3 wherein (l) is not zero], treating the reaction product with an alkali to produce the ring-closed product, and subsequently hydrolyzing the product. |
