<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a compression rate from being decreased by masking part of a conditional probability distribution table used corresponding to a Markov model so as to nullify a probability with respect to each pixel not in use and editing again other conditional probability distributions so as to configure a new table to apply entropy coding to a moving image. SOLUTION: Coding is applied to an image by using three pixels Xpi , Xpi-1 , and Xpi-2 . In the case of the double Markov information source where an occurring probability of a level Xi of the pixel Xpi going to be coded depends on a level Xi-1 of the pixel Xpi-1 and also on a level Xi-2 of the pixel Xpi-2 , a conditional probability distribution P (Xi|Xi-2 , Xi-1 ) is generated and entropy coding is applied to the image based on the conditional probability distribution. In this coding, 1st and 2nd pixels on each scanning line in each frame are not coded. This is because two vicinity pixels cannot completely be aligned.</p> |
