METHOD FOR OBSERVING OPTICAL FIBER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform a high-precision image processing even when an optical fiber is fused and to improve the positioning precision of the optical fiber. SOLUTION: By this method, the connection part of optical fibers 2 to be fusion-spliced is irradiated with the light from a light source 1 and the light is photodetected by an image pickup means 3 provided on the opposite side from the light source 1 across the optical fiber 2 to picks up an image of the optical fiber 2. In this case, the light emission wavelength range of the light source 1 and the wavelength range where the spectral sensitivity of the image pickup means 3 are nearly matched with each other and those wavelength bands are shifted from the light emitted by the temperature radiation from the optical fiber 2 heated at the time of the fusion splicing.
