PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a symbol reader capable of decoding processing, which automatically decode-deciphers image data of a symbol, when a distance between a printing medium and a reading port for making light reflected from the symbol incident comes to a focal position, namely a reading position. SOLUTION: The reader is constituted of a driver 127 which illuminates the symbol started by a trigger signal outputted from a trigger generating circuit 124 outputting the trigger signal, when the distance between the printing medium and the reading port detected by a distance sensor 123 is at a readable position, an image sensor 122 started by the trigger signal and a decoding circuit 125 started by the trigger signal to decode-decipher picture data of the symbol stored in an image memory. |
