PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To transmit/receive only required picture data by generating/ transmitting index data from compressed picture data which is to be transmitted and transmitting picture data corresponding to a selected picture based on transmitted data. SOLUTION: This picture communication equipment 1 executes an index processing for automatically laying out a plurality of picture data so that they can be printed/outputted by a data processing part 7 based on the number of originals which are read by a scanner part 6, and they are stored in a picture file part 10. When the reading of the originals terminates, picture data which is index-processed is transmitted to a communication line from the picture file part 10. A reception side designates the required picture in a received index sheet and it is returned. The picture communication equipment 1 transmits picture data corresponding to the picture designated on the returned index sheet. |
