PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce 1-chlorosulfonyl-3,3,4,4-tetramethylazetidine-2-one without coloration in a high selectivity from 2,3-dimethyl-2-butene and chlorosulfonylisocyanate. SOLUTION: This 1-chlorosulfonyl-3,3,4,4-tetramethylazetidine-2-one is obtained by performing a reaction of 2,3-dimethyl-2-butene with chlorosulfonylisocyanate in the presence of a basic compound e.g. a metal carbonate for suppressing the production of a coloring material, byproducts such as 1-chlorosulfonyl-4- methyl-4-isopropyl-tetramethylazetidine, etc. In this case, the existing amount of the basic compound is <=3 mol equivalent based on 2,3-dimethyl-2-butene. |
