PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a traffic prediction system to predict traffic density and occupancy time with high accuracy by using the data of a vehicle detector. SOLUTION: This traffic prediction system is provided with a data storage means 12 for storing the data of the vehicle detector 11, a smoothing means 13 for smoothing a traffic curve to represent timewise fluctuation of the stored data, a parameter updating means 14 for updating the parameter of a prediction equation of the traffic to predict the traffic, in consideration of the fluctuations of the traffic to be obtained from the smoothed traffic curve and a predicting means 15 for predicting the traffic density and the occupancy timeΔt hours later, the use of the present measurement data of the vehicle detector and the updated parameter. Exact smoothing, estimation and prediction are performed by using Karman's filter for each means.
