PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound having excellent improving actions on bone mass, inducing actions on differentiation and immunomodulating actions in spite of weak actions on a rise in calcium level in blood. SOLUTION: This compound is represented by formula I (one of R1 to R4 is COR5 ; another is OH and the remaining two are H or the like; R5 is OH or the like), e.g. methyl (25R)-1α,3β,25-trihydroxy-9,10-secoergosta-5Z,7E,10(19)- triene-26-carboxylate. The exemplified compound is obtained by carrying out the ultraviolet light irradiation and thermal isomerization of a 5,7-diene derivative represented by formula II (Me is methyl) and produced by coupling (2R,3R)- dimethyl-4-phenylsulfony-1,2-butanediol ditrimethylsilyl ether with a 4-phenyl-1,2,4- triazoline-3,4-dione adduct of a 22-iodo derivative of a steroid, then carrying out a reduction, etc.
