PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the binary shape signal coder that selects and uses a proper context by adopting the zigzag scanning technology so as to improve the coding efficiency of a binary shape signal furthermore. SOLUTION: The coder includes a zigzag scanning section 110 that applies zigzag scanning to a current binary block and provides an output of each pixel in the current binary block according to the scanning sequence, a context decision section 102 that selects a context corresponding to pixels going to be processed from pixels that have been processed precedingly by taking the scanning sequence into account, a context number calculation section 130 that calculates a context number of each pixel, a probability table section 140 that detects a probability of each pixel and an arithmetic coding section 150 that codes a current binary block arithmetically. |
