PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display a significant image by which the contents of the image are grasped by skipping a monochromatic image such as a black/white image whose contents are hardly grasped even for a moving image started from the monochromatic image. SOLUTION: A CPU extracts a head address of moving image data to be displayed (step 102) and calculates an address after a prescribed time from a time indicated by the head address (step 103). The CPU moves an optical head to the calculated address location on an optical disk to read the data (step 104) and inputs the data to an MPEG decoder (step 105). When the CPU detects an I picture in the data after the calculated address, the CPU reduces and processes the image data decoded from the I picture detected first and displays the data on a display device (step 106).
