摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable an object to be quickly detected and tracked. SOLUTION: Optical images formed by lenses for range-finding 10a and 10b is converted to image signals by image pickup elements 18a and 18b. Besides, the image processing thereof are executed by image processing circuit 20a and 20b and inputted to a CPU 22. By the CPU 22, a distance to the object and the direction thereof are calculated from the image signals outputted from the processing circuits 20a and 20b based on the principle of tigonometrical survey. Besides, the apex angle of a variable apex angle prism 16 is changed by controlling a variable apex angle prism driving circuit 211 according to the obtained directional information of the object so as to make the optical axis 14 of a lens for photographing 12 face the object by the CPU 22. Simultaneously, the lens 12 (focusing lens and zooming lens) is driven so that the lens 12 is focused on the object and the object becomes desired size in an image plane by controlling a lens driving circuit 26 by the CPU 22.
