PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gain equalizer wherein eventual package size is reduced and the effect of vibration on optical characteristics and mechanical reliability is less. SOLUTION: A gain equalizer 100 which equalizes the gain of an optical amplifier comprises long-cycle fiber gratings(LPG) 31, 32, and 33 comprising wavelength characteristics corresponding to gain wavelength characteristics of the optical amplifier connected at front and/or post stage of the gain equalizer 100, a package 10 which houses the LPGs 31, 32, and 33 substantially in parallel, and light reflection members 41-1 and 42-2 which fold back light's advancing direction so that parallel LPGs 31, 32, and 33 are connected in series, are provided. Since, with this configuration, a folding structure of LPG with the use of light reflection member is permitted, package length is shortened compared to a package where LPG is arrayed linearly. |
