Portable apparatus for in-situ production of blocks of solid CO2 from CO2 under pressure. Transportable unit for the fabrication of blocks of solid carbon dioxide from CO2 under pressure, comprising at least one rigid mold (3) with a porous part (5) to allow escape of excess CO2 gas; a moveable piston (4) sealing the mold; a volume (V1) representing the internal volume of the mold; a volume (V2) representing the volume between the moving piston and the wall of the structure (2) holding the mold; a tube (T1) feeding fluid under pressure from the CO2 bottle (1) to the nozzle (6) to form CO2 snow in the volume (V1); a tube (T2) to feed fluid under pressure to the volume (V2); a valve (R1) which in the closed position isolates the bottle from the system; a valve (R2) which in the closed position isolates the tube (T2) from the tube (T1); a valve (R3) which in the closed position isolates the tube (T1) from the nozzle (6); whereby starting with the valves R1, R2 and R3 in the closed position, the following operations are carried out sequentially: (a) open valve (R1); (b) open valve (R3); (c) close valve (R3); (d) open valve (R2); (e) close valve (R1); (f) extract solid block of CO2.
