摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a liquid crystal display element capable of expanding a visual field angle and preventing a contrast ratio from being reduced due to a disclination line. SOLUTION: An upper orientation film 31 to which orientation processing is not applied is formed on the whole surface of an upper substrate 35 forming an upper electrode 33 on its surface. Partitions 43 are formed on the surface of the film 31 so as to surround the peripheries of respective pixels. The height of each partition 43 is set to >=1/2 the thickness of a liquid crystal(LC) layer. An upper elliptic polarizing plate 37 is arranged on the upper surface of the upper substrate 35. A lower electrode 34 is formed on the upper surface of a lower substrate 36. A lower orientation film 32 to which orientation processing is not applied is formed on the whole upper surface of the lower substrate 36 forming the lower electrode 34 on its surface. The upper and lower substrates 35, 36 are arranged in parallel in the mutually opposed state of the upper and lower orientation films 31, 32. A gap between the upper and lower substrates 35, 36 is held at a fixed interval by a spacer 39 and a nematic lC layer is arranged between both the substrates 35, 36.
