PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a satisfactory virtual image by improving the light utilization efficiency and preventing returning lights at the same time. SOLUTION: A polarized beam splitter 9 which reflects an s-polarized light reflects a polarized luminous flux emitted from an LCD 8 and having prescribed image information to lead the s-polarized light to a quarter-wave plate 11, after which it is reflected in an aspherical concave half mirror 12, and led again to the quarter-wave plate 11, where it is converted into a p-polarized light and the p-polarized light is transmitted through a polarized beam splitter 9 and led to a viewer side 13 to form a virtual image. |
