PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily correct image distortion in a horizontal direction due to swing/tilt projection by independently setting up the correction values of right and left distortion based on parameters expressing the correction values of right and left distortion of an image of which distortion is to be corrected. SOLUTION: In order to correct the distortion of a displayed image at the time of projecting a distortionless original image formed on an image forming part to a screen by swing/tilt projection, a distortion corrected image correcting the shape of the original image is prepared and applied to the image forming part. A start pixel address based on an inclinationθ1X and an end address based on an inclinationθ2X are respectively independently found out and a horizontal correction ratio for determining how many pixels in a corresponding line of a display image area IF are used for displaying an image for one line out of an image MF is found out. A distortion corrected image is obtained from the original image MF based on the ratio of the number MEMX of horizontal pixels in the original image MF stored in a frame memory to the number IMGX of horizontal pixels in the display image area IF and the horizontal correction ratio.
