PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable suppression of variation of a floating amount of a magnetic head against a change in an ambient air pressure by generating a negative pressure and a positive pressure on an air bearing surface (ABS surface) so as to obtain an appropriate shape thereof. SOLUTION: A slider 16 operating over a magnetic disk 30 at a floating amount fH is raised by an air flow A to maintain a position with an angle of elevationθat a position where a balance with a suspension spring 18 is realized. In this case, a positive pressure FP and a negative pressure FN operate at the center of gravity G of the slider 16. The respective amounts of the positive pressure FP and the negative pressure FN are appropriately selected in accordance with a shape of an ABS surface. The positive pressure FP and the negative pressure FN become smaller with a smaller air pressure, resulting in a smaller lift and a reduced floating amount fH. However, since the fulcrum P of the suspension spring 18 is positioned closer to the outlet side of the air flow A than the center of gravity G, the floating amount fH can be maintained at the constant value while the angle of elevationθis reduced.
