OPTICAL MODULE WITH WATERPROOF CAP

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical module which can prevent contamination at the end face of an optical fiber exposed at the end section of a ferrule when the module is mounted on a mounting member. SOLUTION: An optical module is provided with an optical module 10 and a waterproof cap 20. The module 10 is provided with a ferrule 13 and a package 11. The ferrule 13 has first and second end sections. The package 11 has a surface from which one end section of the ferrule 13 is protruded and seals an optical element. The cap 20 is provided with a waterproofing section 21 into which a ferrule inserting hole 24 having closely contacting sections 26 and 28 on its internal surface is formed. The side face of the ferrule 13 is tightly brought into contact with the sections 26 and 28 and the end sections 13a of the ferrule 13 is sealed.
