PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the utilization factor of an active material and increase discharge capacity by using composite particles prepared by covering the surfaces of nickel hydroxide particles or base particles mainly comprising nickel hydroxide with a Co-A-P layer comprising Co, Mn, P and the like, as an active material. SOLUTION: Composite particles prepared by covering the surfaces of nickel hydroxide particles or base particles mainly comprising nickel hydroxide with a Co-A-P layer (A is at least one element selected from Mn, Zn, Ni, Y, and Bi) are used in a nickel electrode as an active material to form a positive electrode. As the Co-A-P layer, a Co-Zn-P layer, a Co-Mn-P layer, and a Co- Zn-Mn-P layer are the most suitable, and formed by electroless plating so as to be 1-20 wt.% based on the weight of the base particles. Sodium hydroxide is added to the base particles having the Co-A-P layer, and by including sodium by heat-treatment, the conductivity of the active material can be enhanced. |
