PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a trivalent metal-doped, lithium-rich spinel compound used as a positive-electrode material for a lithium secondary battery of high energy density type. SOLUTION: This compound is a lithium-manganese double oxide having a specific surface area of 2 m<2> /g or less and a spinel structure expressed by the formula: Li1+w Mn2-x Mx Fy O4+z , where (w) is 0.05 to 0.15, (x) is 0.01 to 0.20, and (y) is 0.01 to 0.1, and is a compound with its 16d site occupied by Mn, M and Li. As the M, Co is desirable, but trivalent metal such as Cr and Al can be used. If a divalent metal is used, only it has to be a transition metal such as Ni and Cu. The Li1+w Mn2-x Mx Fy O4+z is used as a positive-electrode active material of a lithium secondary battery, and an intercalation compound such as carbon is used as a negative electrode of a rocking-chair type lithium ion battery. |
