PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate noise while leaving an edge and to output the multilevel images high in definition. SOLUTION: In this image processing method, binary image signals 1 are inputted, the matrix of 3×3 is taken out by using a line buffer 2 and a delay circuit 5, coefficients α1-α9 are multiplied to the image signals of respective picture elements in a multiplication circuit 4 and a weighted average value F'5 relating to the picture element under consideration is obtained. The averages E6 /2 and E8 /2 of the errors of the weighted average value and the first density data of the picture element are calculated for the peripheral picture elements of the picture element under consideration by a subtraction circuit 8, a division circuit 9, the line buffer 10 and the delay circuit 11. Then, they are added to the weighted average value F'5 of the picture element under consideration by an addition circuit 14 and multilevel image signals F5 are obtained. |
