FERTILISERS FROM WASTE TOBACCO

Fertilizers are prepared using waste tobacco. A nitrogen and phosphate soln. is mixed to neutralize the alkali component of a carbide comprised of incompletely burned tobacco powder and leaves. The tobacco powder and leaves are incompletely burned to decrease their weight by 40-65%, giving 1.3-3% total nitrogen and 6.0-8.0% water-soluble potassium, which are neutralized to pH 6.0-7.5 with a 10-30% nitrogen and phosphate mixture of the carbide volume. The ratio of nitrogen to phosphate is 10 to 90 or 90 to 10.
