PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device which is inexpensive, is simple in constitution, and can continuously print images of good quality without producing abnormal images even on paper sheets of irregular sizes. SOLUTION: Of two settings for a transfer voltage application period (transfer setting range) (a) for paper of irregular size (postcard, 188 mm), the period for A4 breadth (209.76 mm) or less is automatically selected and a transfer voltage is applied for 3.68 seconds (actual transfer period for a postcard and idle transfer period in which only a conveyor belt is operated) at a paper feed speed of 57 mm/sec. During the next preparation period(b) (3.31 seconds), the transfer voltage is turned off, during which the peripheral surface of a photoreceptor drum having a diameter of 30 mmϕ make two rotations (188.67 mm). Exposure is performed at time t2 after the position of the peripheral surface of the photoreceptor drum at which transfer charging for the set range of transfer to leading paper ends at time t1 is initialization charged twice in succession, and the end portion (leading charged end position) of a toner image developed reaches a transfer part at time t3.
