<p>The suit is made of fiber-reinforced plastic material and has a back compartment containing a rechargeable or replaceable compressed air or gas bottle. A hood fits over the wearer's safety helmet. Gas is released into the suit by pyrotechnic detonators, fired electrically from a battery worn on the belt. The suit, including gloves and overshoes, is made of fiber-reinforced plastic material, e.g. Kevlar (RTM), preferably treated for fire resistance, and includes a back compartment containing a rechargeable or replaceable compressed air or gas bottle. A hood fits over the wearer's safety helmet. Gas is released into the suit by pyrotechnic detonators, such as those used in automobile airbags, fired electrically from a battery worn on the belt, the circuit being closed by the wearer via a belt switch, or, if he fails to use it, automatically by one or more of the impact detectors installed inside protective foam-filled cushions at various points.
