The present invention describes a way of transmitting torque by friction: traction rollers (38), drivingly connected to the output shaft (29), are disposed between a fixed toroidal plate (19) and an input toroidal plate (25). The traction rollers (38) are mounted on sleeves (20) hinged by means of pins (35) onto toothed support members (39). The transmission ratio is controlled by changing the angle of inclination of the rollers (38) while the transmission is functioning. The drive can also be disconnected by moving the fixed toroidal plate (19) away from the rollers (38) in axial direction.
