<p>A cleat has cam (6) which in the first configuartion is constrained by lever (4) which is pivoted at pivot (5) from housing (3) such that cam (6) grips rope between its surface and that of the base in housing (3). Lever (4) may be rotated to an extent such that cam (6) and cam axis (7) move away and release rope (1) in the second configuration. Lever (4) may then be rotated in the opposite direction to move cam (6) and cam axis (7) back towards rope (1) to return to the first configuration. The mechanical relationship between the movement of lever (4) and its geometry restraining cam (6) to grip rope, enables rope (1), for a range of different cross-sectional rope diameters, to be released easily at comparatively high applied loads on rope (1). Movement between both the first and the second configurations may be achieved at a distance from or close to the cleat by controlled movement of the rope emerging from housing (3).</p> |
