<p>A ceramic matrix composite/organic matrix composite hybrid fire shield (10) and the methods of making such is disclosed. The hybrid fire shield (10) is comprised of an organic matrix composite substrate (12) co-bonded with a cured-ceramic matrix composite layer (14) made of a plurality of cured-ceramic matrix composite plies (26). The surface of the organic matrix composite (20) is treated to prevent delamination and enable proper bonding between the surface (20) and the ceramic matrix composite layer (14). The ceramic matrix composite layer (14) is applied and co-bonded to the surface (20) of the organic matrix composite (12) to produce the hybrid structure (10). It is intended that the ceramic matrix layer (14) be in direct contact with heat and flames. During impingement of flames and heat the ceramic matrix layer (14) pyrolyzes and converts from a polymeric to a ceramic composite material.</p> |
