<p>A slotted rod (10) for an optical fiber cable having optical fiber receiving grooves (14) formed in the outer circumferential portion of an optical fiber receiving body (12), wherein at least the regions of the optical fiber receiving body (12) where the optical fiber receiving grooves (14) are formed are constructed of a foam to prevent deterioration in the flexibility of the slotted rod (10) and a solid layer with a smooth surface is formed on at least that inner circumferential surface portion of each optical fiber receiving groove (14) kept in contact with optical fibers. An optical fiber cable formed by housing optical fibers in each optical fiber receiving groove (14) and coating the outer periphery of the slotted rod (10) with a covering layer, wherein optical fibers received in optical fiber receiving grooves (14) are not bent by the wall surfaces of the grooves to prevent an increase in optical loss of optical fibers.</p> |
