A method and apparatus for preventing fraudulent use of a telephone is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of: 1) collecting an incoming call data of a user; 2) comparing said incoming call data with the user communication characteristic data; and 3) according to the comparison results, executing determined operations. The apparatus for preventing fraudulent use of a telephone comprises: a collecting/receiving means; a characteristic data tracking means; an information processing means; and an executing means.
