NAIL POLISH COMPOSITIONS

The present invention relates to compositions which are useful as cosmetic or therapeutic agents for nails. The present compositions form films exhibiting a Surface Energy of at least 42.5 mJ/m<2> (e.g., 42.5 to 43.5), preferably greater than 43.5 mJ/m<2>. The compositions alternatively or additionally advantageously provide films having a Polarity of from 0.24 to about 0.31. The compositions and films are particularly useful as nail polishes providing improved wear. Preferred compositions contain, by weight of the composition, from about 5 % to about 20 % of a film forming cellulosic polymer; from about 1.25 % to about 8 %, of a film forming polyurethane polymer; from about 3 % to about 20 % of a plasticizer; and from about 55 % to about 90 % of a volatile, organic solvent. The invention also relates to films formed from the compositions, and methods of treating the nails comprising application of the composition to the nails.
