PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the mechanical characteristics of an electrode suitable for an electric double layer capacitor having high capacitance, by making the electrode of carbon material and binding material comprising polytetrafluoroethylene powder including coagulating body of particles having a specific mean first particle diameter. SOLUTION: An electrode for an electric double layer capacitor containing carbon material and binding material uses polytetrafluoroethylene powder including coagulating particles having a mean first particle diameter of 0.26 to 0.40 μm as the binding material of the electrode. The electrode is a porous sheet in which the polytetrafluoroethylene powder is formed in fibers to form continuous fine porous structural bodies, and in which the structural bodies hold the carbon material. The electrode is manufactured by kneading a mixture comprising the carbon material, the polytetrafluoroethylene powder, and liquid lubricant, by forming the mixture in a sheet, and by rolling or extending the sheet. |
