Cr2O3-Al2O3 BASE SINTER AND PROCESS FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

A process for producing a sinter comprising a homogeneous solid solution of Cr2O3 and Al2O3 even from inexpensive materials; and a sinter obtained by the process. The sinter is obtained by sintering either a powder mixture consisting of a Cr2O3 powder and an Al2O3 powder each substantially having an average particle diameter of 0.5 mu m or smaller or a powder mixture obtained by mixing the above powder mixture with 1.5 to 15 wt.% TiO2 powder substantially having an average particle diameter of 0.5 mu m or smaller at 1,350 to 1,600 DEG C in a vacuum of 10<-20> to 10<-5> atm. This sinter is a sufficiently homogeneous solid solution comprising Cr2O3 and Al2O3 and has a relative density of 95 % or higher.
