The image data compression device (106) uses color separation of the received image data from an image sensor (104) into red, green and blue color values which are divided by a given factor, before being supplied to a coder of variable length, coupled to a packet device, dividing the compressed data bit stream into packets for serial transmission. Also included are Independent claims for the following: (a) an image data compression system; (b) an image processing system.
