The electronic starter (1) has a DC voltage intermediate circuit, which is fed parallel from a mains rectifier (3) and a storage capacitor (C1) across a decoupling diode or commuting diode (5). The storage capacitor is connected at the lamp branch (9) across a charging circuit. This contains a coupling capacitor (CK), at which an AC voltage for the operation of the charging circuit is tapped.
