SOLUTION: A liq. crystal mixture having a specified resistivity, the resistivity being reproducibly adjustable, is obtd. by incorporating an acidic compd. in a concn. of 10 ppm to 10% into the same. Pref., the acidic compd. is a phenol compd. of the formula wherein A<1> and A<2> are each 1,4-cyclohexylene, trans-1,4- cyclohexenylene. 1,4-phenylene, 1,4-bicyclo[2,2,2]octylene, piperidine-1,4-diyl, naphthalene-2-6-diyl, or the like; Z<1> and Z<2> are each-COO-, -COCH2 -, -CH2 O-, -CH2 CH2 -, -CH=CH-,-C≡C-, a single bond, or the like; R is H, a 1-15C alkyl, 2-15C alkenyl, CN, F, Cl, or the like; n is 0, 1, or 2; m is 0 or 1; o is 1, 2, or 3; X and Y are each F, Cl, NO2 , CN, or the like; and p1 , p2 , q1 , and q2 are each 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4}.
