PURPOSE:To improve a rolling efficiency of a rolling mill by equipping common spindle couplings on a roll driving unit of the rolling mill to drive all of work rolls, intermediate rolls or reinforcing rolls. CONSTITUTION:The spindle couplings 2-1, 2-2 equipped on output shafts of the driving unit 3 are constituted to be freely capable of expanding and contracting in the axial direction and capable of attaching to and detaching from the work rolls 6, 7, intermediate rolls 8, 9 and reinforcing rolls 10, 11. In the state of rolling, according to the kind of rolling material 12, large or small diameter rolls 6, 7 are used, and the rolling is performed by a method wherein when using the large diameter rolls 6, 7, the rolls 6, 7 are used as the driving ones and when using the small diameter rolls 6, 7, the rolls 8, 9 or the rolls 10, 11 are used as driving ones. In this way, the rolling efficiency is improved. |
